Why am I studying English?

Everyone knows that English language is a main universal language. Here in my country, the person who knows more than 2 languages is the one who´s having more opportunities in jobs, talking about a better paid job or also being invited to work or study in another country because of your language skills.

Since I was a little girl my parents decided to sign me up at private schools because of the bilingual offer, they wanted me to have another way of communicate with other people without using my own language. I am entirely thankful for that.
I remember that the last time I studied English language was my last year of high school at a private school, unfortunately when I entered to UNAM university I realized that English was not a mandatory subject to study, is just an option to take for the student.

All my life I have been interested on a student exchange program. At first I was hoping to apply for Madrid, Spain but the opportunities are lower than in other places because Spanish language is the only language they ask for, Mexico´s native language. Then I remember that maybe a reason of been studying English my entire life is for having  kind of opportunities, the ones that I could have preferences over other students who apply to countries that require English language.

Currently my objective is to apply for an exchange to Italy country on eight semester, my last semester of studying business administration. They ask me for a special level of English and also a basic level of Italian language, actually I´m coursing both languages on CELE UNAM hoping to receive the scholarship.

The facilities offered by UNAM are awesome and I think that we should take advantage because a language course here is cheaper than in other places that teach the same. I expect me to improve in English writing and vocabulary to create the abilities of specially obtain total communication with the University of Italy that I want to go to.

  1. Another language, and specially English, definitely gives you more options and oportunities for your school career and the laboral market. Your goal seems ambitious and you're doing what you need to achieve it so congratulations and good luck with that. I currently study English and Italian here at the CELE too, what a coincidence.

  5. I´m sure you can do it. Both languages seem a lot to learn, but Italian is quite fascinating.

In addition, Italian is a very romantic language, and also artistic I think. The most important operas were written in Italian.

Definitely, learning two languages will open you doors, personally and professionally. Keep pushing o, and don´t forget to enjoy the way to you goals.
